Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Thrapston

Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 4 on 4 off (Rotating Days & Nights)

Basic Salary: £40,000 (Inclusive of Shift Allowance)

Benefits: Every 7th shift cycle provides 18 consecutive days off, Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Day off, 5% Company Pension, End of Year Bonus (subject to KPIs), On-site Car Parking, Uniform and PPE provided.

The Business

Auxtronic is partnered with one of the largest European players in the development and production of recycled paper for corrugated cardboard, producing over 3.3 million tonnes annually.

Their Thrapston site is responsible for producing corrugated board packaging used by leading Food & Beverage, Distribution, and Pharma manufacturers. The facility is a BRC-accredited, hygienic plant renowned for efficiency and innovation in sustainable packaging.

In 2021, the site achieved an incredible milestone by producing over 1.15 million square metres of corrugated cardboard within 24 hours — setting a new group production record.

The Role: Electrical Maintenance Engineer

  • Perform electro-mechanical maintenance across a range of automated production machinery.
  • Provide reactive breakdown support to equipment such as Conveyors, Balers, BHS Corrugators, Packaging Machinery, and other bespoke systems.
  • Fault find using PLCs (Siemens & Allen Bradley).
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine servicing.
  • Lead or assist with project maintenance — including installations, commissioning, and control panel modifications.
  • Support paid overtime during shutdowns, decommissioning, and shift cover periods.

Entry Requirements

  • Qualifications: City & Guilds, NVQ, or BTEC Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, Maintenance, or Installation, ideally gained through a recognised apprenticeship.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years as an Electrical Maintenance Engineer within high-speed manufacturing, packaging, or FMCG environments.
  • Characteristics: Reliable, flexible, and committed to delivering consistent results to support the brand and production goals.
